Testimonials From Our Members

“I’ve been unemployed since August of last year after leaving active duty and just now starting to really get back into the job market. This is my first time coming to a career fair event. A friend of mine emailed me that I should check you guys out specifically because he was impressed with the way you have things set up. I think he’s right”— Military Spouse and USAF Veteran

“I had a great discussion with the folks over at Dominion, a couple of the reps there are also retired Navy, one’s a master chief, so it was good to have a connection there. I got a few good leads with Dominion, Military Sealift Command and Lockheed Martin. It was a good visit here, I’m glad I came.”— Navy Master Chief

“I was just let go by Verizon after 11 yrs, so I thought it would be worth the chance to see what this old war horse can find out. I started not to come as I know there’s a lot more younger people who have a better competitive edge in the employment world than I do, but I was surprised to find through my discussions with some of the employers here and the schools that they are indeed interested in my experience. I guess it was worthwhile to be here after all.”— 28 Year US Army Reserve Retiree (COL)

“I came in for a job fair and found a career fair! I’m not really sure what I want to do right now having just got out of the Marine Corps, and felt looking around and talking with the recruiters as well as the schools gave me an idea of what direction I need to be heading. Thanks for putting this on.”— USMC Veteran

“I need to do something. I’m an 0861 Artillery, been deployed three times in my four years to Iraq and Afghanistan, and while I want to move on to do something else, I really don’t know what to do. I’m glad I took the drive up from Camp LeJeune to Norfolk here because I would have never known about this Helmets to Hardhats program. It was really good talking with the representative there, he made me really feel good about the things that I have done in the Marine Corps really do mean something.”— Transitioning USMC Sgt

“Thank you for the opportunity to meet with so many excellent colleges and organizations. I found it so worthwhile and received several offers. Thank you. Today is my first day of retirement and I feel good about my future potential. Keep up the good work.”— Major, USAF

“I had a good discussion with the Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin people. They were impressed with my background in the short time that I have been in the Coast Guard, and it looks like I have worked on the kind of equipment that they are interested in. Hopefully I’ll get picked up by one of them. Just having the chance to talk to employers and really knowing what you are worth was worth the time to come here.”— USCG Electronics Technician

“Well, I got out, went home and nothing’s there for me. So, I thought it would be worth the drive (from Florida) to come up here and see if settling in the Norfolk area will work out as far as getting a job goes. I also thought seriously about going back to school, but not sure yet. The new GI Bill is enticing to go back to school, but right now I really need steady employment. I talked with some of the schools you have here and it was a good idea to have them. They gave me something to think about, and perhaps I can find part time employment and use my GI Bill. So, I have a few options to look over. I will go to your event in Virginia Beach on Thursday and see what other companies are there. I’m looking mostly for something in supply and logistics.”— USMC Sgt

“I found some good contacts as well as good tips while talking with General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman. I know that I probably will need to go back to school to obtain my FCC and A&P certification to help me in enhancing my employment opportunities. I guess that means I better take advantage of my GI Bill now.”— SFC, US Army

“I talked with Limestone College who has an interest for instructors as I have my BA degree already, and also received some good contact information with Northrop Grumman, FedEx and Helmets to Hardhats. This was a good experience for me and I’m feeling a bit more confident that my military skills are appreciated and accepted when I retire later this year.”— MSgt USAF, retiring after 5 deployments in 7 years

“This place is a goldmine for me! I have a background in Networking Infrastructure, and both General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman were quite interested in my resume. The guy at General Dynamics gave me an additional contact person and number to follow up with on Monday.”— Army
